3-[(2-Methoxyphenyl)sulfamoyl]-4-methylbenzoic acid is a chemotherapeutic agent that is used to treat cancer. It is an analogue of the natural amino acid tyrosine and inhibits protein synthesis by methylation of the N-terminal amine group. 3-[(2-Methoxyphenyl)sulfamoyl]-4-methylbenzoic acid has been shown to inhibit the growth of cancer cells in vitro, in animals and humans. The drug has been used to treat leukemia, lymphoma, prostate cancer, and other cancers. 3-[(2-Methoxyphenyl)sulfamoyl]-4-methylbenzoic acid also has a variety of applications as a reagent for chemical modification of proteins and polysaccharides.
