Product Information

Name:
(3aR,4R,5R,6aS)-Hexahydro-4-[(3R)-3-hydroxy-5-phenylpentyl]-2H-cyclopenta[b]furan-2,5-diol
Description:

Latanoprost is a synthetic prostaglandin F2α analogue. It has been approved by the FDA as an ophthalmic solution for the treatment of open-angle glaucoma and ocular hypertension. Latanoprost is a prodrug that is converted to its active form, (3aR,4R,5R,6aS)-hexahydro-4-[(3R)-3-hydroxy-5-phenylpentyl]-2H-cyclopenta[b]furan-2,5-diol. Latanoprost is a pyridinium compound that exhibits selective binding to the D2 receptor on cells in the ciliary body of the eye, which causes increased production of aqueous humor and thus lowering intraocular pressure. This drug also inhibits prostaglandin production through inhibition of cyclooxygenase activity and has been shown to increase hair growth in humans.
