5-Methyl-1-(4-nitrophenyl)-2-oxo-2,5-dihydro-1H-pyrido[3,2-b]indole-3-carbonitrile is a biochemical that inhibits the HIV reverse transcriptase enzyme. The 5'-Nucleotide analogs of the drug are reversibly competitive inhibitors of HIV reverse transcriptase and inhibit the incorporation of nucleotides into the growing DNA chain. This compound has been shown to be effective against murine leukemia in mice.
