Amino acids 169-178 of microtubule-associated protein 1A (MAP1A) light chain. MAP1A is expressed from the Map1a gene which encodes a precursor polypeptide which is cleaved to produce MAP1A heavy chain and light chain.MAP1A is a structural protein essential for the organisation of neuronal microtubules (MTs) and is abundantly expressed in the mammalian brain. MAP1A is thought to help maintain the neuronal MT network, and modulate synaptic proteins and neuronal survival in the adult central nervous system (CNS). When MAP1A is disrupted in the body it results in problems in coordination, tremors, and late-onset degeneration of cerebellar Purkinje cells.
