Product Information
Ceramide is a lipid that is found in the cell membranes of all animal cells. It is an important component of the cell membrane, which helps to maintain the integrity and fluidity of the cell membrane. Ceramide can be extracted from egg yolk or chicken skin. Fluorescence microscopy has been used to identify and characterize domains within the ceramide molecule. This technique reveals that there are three types of domains: spherical, which are composed of two or more molecules joined by a hydrogen bond; fluorophore-containing, which contain one molecule with a fluorescent group; and volumetric, which are composed of molecules joined by van der Waals forces. The fluorescence microscopy shows that ceramides have a spheroidal morphology and that they exist in different domains with different structures.
