Bis(isothiocyanato)(2,2'-bipyridyl-4,4'-dicarboxylato)(4,4'-dinonyl-2,2'-bipyridyl)ruthenium(II) is a new type of sensitizer that has been shown to be effective in the fabrication of solar cells. The compound is a highly efficient and scalable light absorber and can be used in both dye-sensitized as well as silicon-based solar cells. The compound is sensitive to visible light and has been shown to have a high quantum yield when exposed to blue or green light.
