Ethyl 3,4,5-trimethoxybenzoylacetate is a synthetic compound that is activated by catalytic dehydrating conditions. It is used in the synthesis of organic compounds and has been shown to activate platelet activating factor (PAF) and colchicine. Ethyl 3,4,5-trimethoxybenzoylacetate can be used as a catalyst for the production of organometallic compounds with thionyl chloride or phosphorus pentachloride. This compound also yields high amounts of monochloride and dichloride when reacted with sulfur.
