Description:

Diphenyl phenylphosphonate is a reactive compound with a carboxy terminal and a hydroxy group. It is used in the synthesis of polyester, aliphatic hydrocarbon, and ester compounds. The molecule has an expansion coefficient that increases with temperature. Diphenyl phenylphosphonate can be synthesized by reacting biphenyl with malonic acid and phosphorus pentoxide. The reaction mechanism starts by protonating the diphenyl group to form a phosphonium salt, which reacts with the malonic acid to form an ester compound. This reaction is followed by the elimination of water to produce diphenyl phenylphosphonite. Diphenyl phenylphosphonite can then react with another molecule of biphenyl to produce diphenyl phenylethane-2,5-dithiol.
