Behenamide is a p-hydroxybenzoic acid amide with a constant pressure of 1.0 atm, a melting point of about 195 °C and a boiling point of about 240 °C. It has been shown that behenamide does not react with metal hydroxides or water vapor, which makes it suitable for use in the preparation of samples for analysis by gas chromatography. The metabolism of behenamide has been studied in rats, showing that it is metabolized to fatty acids and hydroxyl groups. Behenamide has also been shown to have physiological effects on atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease and fatty acid synthesis.
