Description:

Vinyl cinnamate is a ruthenium complex that is used as a catalyst in the polymerization of polycarboxylic acids. It has been shown to be an efficient method for the synthesis of polymers that contain a hydroxy group and a methyl cinnamate group. Vinyl cinnamate is also used as a monomer in organic solvent, where it reacts with formaldehyde to produce vinyl alcohol. The vinyl alcohol can then react with another molecule containing a carbonyl group, such as acetone or ethyl acetate, to produce formaldehyde. This process can be repeated to create more molecules containing carbonyl groups. Vinyl cinnamate contains two functional groups: carbonyl and hydroxyl.
