Description:
5-Pentadecylresorcinol is a natural compound found in cashew nuts. It is an inhibitor of respiratory electron transport in mitochondria, which leads to mitochondrial membrane potential collapse and cell death. 5-Pentadecylresorcinol has been shown to have anticarcinogenic properties in vitro by inhibiting the growth of cells from colorectal adenocarcinoma cell lines. 5-Pentadecylresorcinol also has antifungal activity against Candida albicans and other fungi. This compound has been shown to increase water permeability, so it may be effective for treatment of congestive heart failure.
