2-Hydroxy-4,6-dimethoxybenzoic acid (2HDMB) is a natural phenolic compound that belongs to the group of chalcones. It has been found in a number of plants, including Eucomis echioides and Andrographis paniculata. This compound is found in the leaves of Eucomis echioides and the roots of Andrographis paniculata. 2HDMB can be synthesized by reacting a 2-hydroxybenzoic acid with an aromatic amine or an aromatic hydroxylamine. It can also be synthesized by condensing a hydroxylated flavone with an aromatic aldehyde. 2HDMB has antioxidative properties and it reacts with lipid peroxidation products such as hydroperoxides, which are formed during oxidative damage to cell membranes.
