N-Phenylethene-1-sulfonamide is a glycine antagonist that binds to the glycine binding site of the strychnine-insensitive glycine receptor in the central nervous system. It has been shown to be potent and selective for the glycine receptor, with no significant affinity for other receptors or binding sites. This drug has been shown to have analgesic and antipyretic properties in rats, as well as an ability to reduce nociception in mice. N-Phenylethene-1-sulfonamide also has a high therapeutic index and is not toxic at doses up to 100mg/kg.
