1,4-Diiodo-2,3,5,6-tetramethylbenzene (DIET) is a perfluorinated compound used in organic synthesis. DIET has been shown to be an effective ligand for the production of organometallic compounds and can be used as a bidentate ligand. It has been shown to have good photophysical properties with uv irradiation. DIET is a colorless liquid that is soluble in acetonitrile and other solvents. DIET has a benzene ring with two iodine atoms attached on opposite sides of the ring. The phenyl groups are on the 1 and 4 positions of the ring and are connected by two carbon bridges. DIET also contains functionalities such as aromatic hydrocarbon groups.
