Product Information
3,4-Dimethylpentanoic acid is a fatty acid that can be converted to 3,4-dimethylhexanal through bioconversion in a bioreactor. This process is spontaneous, and the reaction does not require any enzymes or cofactors. The conversion of 3,4-dimethylpentanoic acid to 3,4-dimethylhexanal is catalyzed by an enzyme called lipoxygenase. Lipoxygenases use molecular oxygen as a substrate to form peroxides from unsaturated fatty acids. The most common lipoxygenase used for this conversion is α-lipoxygenase.
Fluorination of 3,4-dimethylpentanoic acid leads to the formation of 3,4-difluoropentanoic acid (3DFPA). This process is abiotic and requires no enzymes or cofactors. The fluorination reaction requires an excess of hydrogen fluoride gas and an oxidizing agent
