Description:

3,5,5-Trimethylhexanoic acid is an organic compound that is the monocarboxylic acid derived from 3,5,5-trimethylhexane-2,4-diol. It is a colorless liquid with a viscosity of 0.02 Pa·s at 25 °C. 3,5,5-Trimethylhexanoic acid has been shown to have high reactivity as a reaction intermediate for acrylates and as a reaction intermediate in detergent compositions. The fatty acid also has been used to synthesize gadolinium chelate compounds for use in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) contrast agents. 3,5,5-Trimethylhexanoic acid can be used to reduce the energy consumption during production of pharmaceutical preparations by using it as a surfactant or wetting agent.
