2-(Dimethylamino)-1-phenyl-ethanone (DMAPEE) is an impurity that can be found in a number of pharmaceuticals. DMAPEE is an analytical reference material, and it is also a drug development intermediate. It is used as the starting material to synthesize a number of drugs, including lorazepam, oxazepam, and temazepam. DMAPEE has been shown to have pharmacopoeia properties in the United States Pharmacopeia (USP). Impurities are often seen in drug products due to their synthesis processes.
