2,2,4,4-Tetramethyltetrahydrofuran is an oxygenated compound. It can be synthesized by the reaction of acetone with formaldehyde in the presence of a catalyst such as phosphite or methyl derivatives. The reactions are catalyzed by hydrogen peroxide and lead to the formation of 2,2,4,4-tetramethyltetrahydrofuran. This product has been analyzed through gas chromatography and mass spectrometry. The chemical analyses reveal that the product has a cyclic structure with four methyl groups on each side of a central carbon atom.
