Product Information
- 2-Ethyl-4-pyridinecarboxylic acid
- 3376-96-3
2-Ethylisonicotinic Acid is an activator of the enzyme nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD) deaminase that is used in the treatment of tuberculosis. It has a dehydrating effect and spontaneously alkylates DNA, which leads to cross-linking. 2-Ethylisonicotinic acid also blocks the conversion of nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD) to nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate (NADP), causing a decrease in the level of NADP and an increase in the level of NADH. This compound has been shown to have similar activity against Mycobacterium tuberculosis, but not Mycobacterium avium complex. The mechanism by which it acts is postulated to be through biomimetic flavin chemistry or biomolecular interactions with riboflavin.
