Product Information
- Cyclopentanebutanoic Acid, Γ-Oxo-
4-Cyclopentyl-4-oxobutyric acid is a ketoacid that is used in organic synthesis as a synthon for oxetane. It can be transformed into other compounds, such as branched chain carboxylic acids, by the use of radical chemistry. The intramolecular rearrangement of 4-cyclopentyl-4-oxobutyric acid yields cyclopentanone and 1,2-dihydropyridine. This compound undergoes carbonyl addition with alkenes to form cyclic products. The rearrangement of 4-cyclopentyl-4-oxobutyric acid also leads to the formation of cyclopentene and cyclohexene derivatives via an alkenoic reaction. Irradiation or photochemical reactions lead to the formation of polycyclic structures from 4-cyclopentyl-4-oxobutyric acid.
