2-(Bromomethyl)-2-phenyl-1,3-dioxolane is an oxime that is used to treat endometriosis. This drug inhibits the growth of a variety of plants by inhibiting chloroacetanilide synthase. 2-(Bromomethyl)-2-phenyl-1,3-dioxolane has been shown to be effective in animal studies for fertility and has shown phytotoxic effects in some plants. 2-(Bromomethyl)-2-phenyl-1,3-dioxolane also binds with halides and sulfur to form alkylsulfonyl halides, which are used as herbicides or pesticides. 2-(Bromomethyl)-2-phenyl-1,3-dioxolane can react with nitric acid and amines to form haloalkylsulfonyl amines, which can be used as pharmaceuticals.
