Description:
1-Chloro-2-methoxy-3-methylbenzene is an intermediate in the preparation of 1,2,4-trihydroxybenzene. It can be prepared by chlorination of 2-chloro-6-fluorobenzaldehyde followed by carbonylation with methylmagnesium chloride and potassium chloride. The reaction is carried out in a solvent such as methanol or ethanol. The product is isolated by recrystallization from water or petroleum ether to give a white crystalline solid that melts at about 82°C. This process is efficient and gives high yields of product for this chemical compound.
