Description:

1-Ethyl-4-vinylbenzene is a monomer that can be used to make linear polymers. It is the simplest member of the vinylbenzenes, where the double bond is in the 1 position. It has a high melting point and does not easily react with chlorine at room temperature. The kinetic data for this compound are available, which can be used for kinetic studies of polymerization reactions. This monomer also copolymerizes well with styrene, but not divinylbenzene. The activation energies for these two compounds are different and can be used to differentiate between them.
