Description:
3-(Methylsulfanyl)benzenol is an industrially important chemical that has a variety of uses. It can be used as a solvent, in the production of dyes, and as a precursor to other chemicals. 3-(Methylsulfanyl)benzenol is also used in the production of pesticides, pharmaceuticals, and plasticizers. It is synthesized by reacting methyl sulfide with benzene in the presence of acid. The industrial synthesis of this compound requires high temperatures and pressures, which are provided by autoclaves. 3-Methylsulfanylbenzenol is soluble in water and reacts with acids to form esters or anhydrides.
