3-Bromo-4-ethoxypyridine is an anion that can be generated by reaction of the two reagents, bromonium and ethoxide. This compound is used in organic synthesis as a nucleophile in substitution reactions. 3-Bromo-4-ethoxypyridine has been shown to react with piperidide and amide groups, which are often found in natural products. 3-Bromo-4-ethoxypyridine can also be used to dehalogenate 2,6,8-trimethylpyridine to form a didehydropyridine. This compound also has radical anion activity.
