Selenocystamine dihydrochloride is a selenium-containing compound that is used as a source of selenium in the treatment of bowel disease. Selenocystamine dihydrochloride has been shown to exhibit antioxidant properties, which may be due to its ability to scavenge reactive oxygen species. Selenocystamine dihydrochloride also inhibits protein synthesis in cells by inhibiting the reactions of amino acid incorporation into proteins. This drug was found to have an effect on plasma lipid levels and α1-acid glycoprotein levels in human serum.
