Product Information
8-Methoxynaphthalen-1-ol is a secondary metabolite of the fungus Streptomyces lividans. It has been found to induce apoptotic cell death in mammalian cells and is therefore used as a potential anticancer drug. 8-Methoxynaphthalen-1-ol inhibits the proliferation of human cancer cells by inducing apoptosis. The compound binds to DNA and forms covalent bonds with guanine residues, thereby inhibiting RNA polymerase II transcription and protein synthesis. 8-Methoxynaphthalen-1-ol also induces reactive oxygen species (ROS) production, which may be responsible for its cytotoxic effects.
