3,3-dimethyl-2-oxocyclopentane-1-carbonitrile is a non-polar solvent that is used as an antifungal agent. It can be synthesized by heating cyclopentanone with chlorocarbonitrile in the presence of a phase transfer catalyst. 3,3-dimethyl-2-oxocyclopentane-1-carbonitrile is not soluble in water and has no odor. The compound hydrolyzes to form metconazole and 1-bromo-3chloropropane. 3,3-Dimethyl -2 -oxocyclopentane -1 -carbonitrile is used as a reagent for synthesis of other compounds.
