Product Information
- Acetamide, N-(4-ethylphenyl)-
N-(4-Ethylphenyl)acetamide is a metabolite of acetanilide and has been shown to be an effective anti-tumour agent. N-(4-Ethylphenyl)acetamide is hydroxylated in the liver by 4-hydroxybenzoate hydroxylase to produce 4-hydroxyacetanilide, which is then oxidized by aldehyde dehydrogenase to produce 4-hydroxyacetophenone. This compound may also be reduced to 4-hydroxyacetophenol, which can react with microsomal preparations containing hydrogen peroxide. These reactions generate reactive oxygen species that cause DNA damage and cell death.
