3-Hydroxy-2-naphthamide is an antimycobacterial agent that inhibits the growth of bacteria by binding to the mycolic acid cell wall. It has been shown to have a higher affinity for Mycobacterium tuberculosis than other species of mycobacteria. 3-Hydroxy-2-naphthamide has also been shown to inhibit the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) in Thp-1 cells and exhibits anti-inflammatory properties. The antimycobacterial activity of 3-hydroxy-2-naphthamide is due to its functional groups, which bind to the chloride ion and form a covalent bond. This reaction takes place in the presence of hydrochloric acid and proceeds with a reaction time of 2 hours at room temperature. The amido group acts as a leaving group during this reaction, forming an intramolecular hydrogen bond with the N atom in the amido group.
