Sulfametomidine is a sulfa drug that inhibits the synthesis of folic acid, which is essential for cell division. It has been used as an analog to sulfadiazine in the treatment of urinary and bowel infections. Sulfametomidine may also be used as a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) for the relief of symptoms associated with autoimmune diseases, such as choroidal neovascularization, or inflammatory bowel disease. Sulfametomidine has antimicrobial properties and can be used to treat bacterial infections such as infectious diseases.
