Product Information

Name:
1,3,5-Tris(chloromethyl)-2,4,6-trimethylbenzene
Synonyms:
  • 1,3,5-Tris-chloromethyl-2,4,6-trimethyl-benzene
  • Benzene, 1,3,5-tris(chloromethyl)-2,4,6-trimethyl-
Description:

1,3,5-Tris(chloromethyl)-2,4,6-trimethylbenzene is a monomer that undergoes ring-opening polymerization. It is used to produce polycarbonates and other polymers with high temperature resistance. Cyclic copolymers of 1,3,5-tris(chloromethyl)-2,4,6-trimethylbenzene with phenylene vinylacetate have been shown to be sensitive to ultraviolet light. The yield of the polymerization reaction increases with increasing concentration of the monomer and decreasing concentration of sulfide ion. Crosslinking also increases the yield of the polymerization reaction as well as viscosity.
1,3,5-Tris(chloromethyl)-2,4,6-trimethylbenzene has a low solubility in water at room temperature but can crosslink with other molecules when heated or irradiated by ultraviolet light.
