4-Aminobenzamidine is a fluorescent probe that is used to study proteolytic enzymes. It has been shown to be a useful tool in the study of soybean trypsin, galleria mellonella, and other model systems. 4-Aminobenzamidine binds reversibly to activated proteases by forming stable complexes with the enzyme. This binding can be detected by measuring the fluorescence intensity of the probe molecule, which changes in response to changes in pH or temperature. The chemical stability of 4-aminobenzamidine is high and it can be used for kinetic measurements as well as analytical methods for determining inhibitor binding.
