Description:
2,6,10-Trimethyldodecane is a farnesene that is obtained by hydrogenation of isovaleric acid. It has been used in the production of diesel fuel and biodiesel. The chemical reactions that take place during the production of 2,6,10-trimethyldodecane from isovaleric acid are similar to those found in refinery process units for petroleum refining. 2,6,10-Trimethyldodecane has been shown to be a potential replacement for diesel fuel and biodiesel due to its high energy density and low emissions of air entrainment and toxic substances such as polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs).
