Product Information
2-Hydroxy-3,6-dimethylbenzoic acid is a chromophore that activates enzymes in the biosynthesis of aromatic compounds. It is found in plants and fungi as well as in some bacteria and protists. 2-Hydroxy-3,6-dimethylbenzoic acid has been shown to be a biosynthetic precursor for the production of salicylic acid, an important plant hormone. This compound also plays a role in the biosynthesis of neocarzinostatin, maduropeptin, and other natural products.
