2-Amino-3-chloropropanoic acid is a synthetic amino acid that is used as a building block in the synthesis of peptides and proteins. It has been shown to inhibit bacterial growth by inhibiting enzymes such as esterase, racemase, and subtilisin. 2-Amino-3-chloropropanoic acid can be found in mammalian cells and has been shown to inhibit the synthesis of d-alanine by cytosolic dehydrochlorinase. This amino acid has also been shown to have stereoisomers, which are different molecules with the same molecular formula but different arrangements of atoms in space.
