2-Amino-3-(2,3-dihydroxyphenyl)propanoic acid is a natural compound that has been shown to have physiological activities including inhibition of tyrosinase activity. Tyrosinase is an enzyme involved in melanin synthesis. This product has been used as a radiation sensitizer for the treatment of papilloma virus and boosting for lithospermum sensitization. It has also been used in a topical pharmaceutical dosage form for the treatment of acne vulgaris.
