4-Chloro-1-isocyanato-2-nitrobenzene is a sodium salt with a molecular weight of 189.18 g/mol, which can be prepared by reacting thionyl chloride with formamide and imidazole. 4-Chloro-1-isocyanato-2-nitrobenzene has been shown to inhibit the methylation of DNA and RNA by methyltansferase enzymes. This compound has also been shown to inhibit the replication of HIV, herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV), and cytomegalovirus (CMV). 4-Chloro-1-isocyanato-2-nitrobenzene is currently being investigated as a possible antiviral agent for use in the treatment of HIV infection.
