- 2-(1-Adamantyl)Oxirane
2-(1-Adamantyl)oxirane is a monomer that can be used to make epoxy resins. It reacts with halides, such as chlorine or bromine, to form epoxides. 2-(1-Adamantyl)oxirane is also used in the fabrication of polycarbonates, which are plastic materials that are resistant to heat and chemicals. It has been shown to inhibit the growth of bacteriophages and can be immobilized on a solid support for use as an antibacterial surface. 2-(1-Adamantyl)oxirane is also used as a substrate for enzymes involved in the synthesis of alcohols from carbohydrates.
