Description:

5-Hydroxy-6,7-dimethoxy-2H-chromen-2-one is a chemical compound which has been shown to have immunomodulatory effects in animals. It has been shown to activate the thrombin receptor and induce proinflammatory cytokines in cell cultures. This compound is prepared by reacting 2,5,6,7,8-pentamethoxyflavone with acetyl chloride or acetic anhydride. 5,6,7,8-Tetrahydroflavones are present in plants such as Cinchona pubescens and Ilex paraguariensis. These compounds are also found in the leaves of borage (Borago officinalis), blackcurrant (Ribes nigrum), and grapefruit (Citrus paradisi).
