Description:
Tert-tetradecanethiol is a mixture of isomers with the formula (CH)4S. It can be used to prepare nanocomposites, which are materials that have at least one dimension in the nanoscale. Tert-tetradecanethiol is soluble in organic solvents and can be crosslinked with many different compounds. In infrared spectroscopy, it exhibits a strong absorption band at 1712 cm−1. The tert-tetradecanethiol molecules can also be oriented and annealed to form linear chains of molecules, which makes them good candidates for use as elastomeric polymers. When combined with gold nanoparticles, these linear chains of molecules form composites that exhibit dichroism when viewed under polarized light.
