Bis(dithiobenzil)nickel(II) is a diode that is used in low-efficiency light emitting diodes. This compound has a chelate ring with two phenyl groups and a redox potential of less than 1.5 volts. Bis(dithiobenzil)nickel(II) is stable under irradiation, but if it is exposed to the air, it will photodegrade. It can be used as an electron donor in cellulose acetate electrochemistry. However, this compound has not been extensively studied for its application in telecommunication devices or photooxidation reactions.
