2-Chloro-1-pyrazol-1-yl-ethanone is a nitrogen containing heterocyclic compound. It is a chloroacetylated pyrazole with an amine nitro group. 2-Chloro-1-pyrazol-1-yl-ethanone was shown to have antiparasitic activity against protozoans and helminths, as well as inhibitory effects on the enzyme systems of the parasites. The chloride anion in 2CPE binds to the parasite's chloride channel, preventing ion transport and leading to cell death by osmotic lysis. The pyrazole ring in 2CPE inhibits the parasite's ATP synthase, which provides energy for cellular functions. This inhibition prevents the transfer of phosphate groups from ATP to ADP, leading to a decrease in ATP levels and cell death.
