4-(4-Aminophenoxy)benzoic acid is a dianhydride that is used to synthesize polyimides. It reacts with phosphorus pentoxide to form the monomer 4,4'-oxydianiline. This compound can be reacted with other diamines and dihydrochloride to form polyimides. 4-(4-Aminophenoxy)benzoic acid is heat resistant and solidifies at room temperature. It reacts exothermically with organic solvents such as benzene, ether, acetone, and chloroform.
