2-Methyl-1,2,3,4-tetrahydroisoquinoline hydrochloride is a hydroxylase inhibitor that has been shown to have antiulcer activity. It inhibits the activity of cytochrome P450 and prevents the formation of endogenous molecules such as prostaglandins. This drug also has the ability to interrupt mitochondrial fission in neuro-2a cells at concentrations lower than those necessary for cell death. 2-Methyl-1,2,3,4-tetrahydroisoquinoline hydrochloride is a fluorescent molecule that can be used to stain cell nuclei in electron microscopic studies.
