Product Information

Name:
Benzyl morpholinoacetate
Synonyms:
  • 4-Morpholineacetic acid, phenylmethyl ester
  • Benzyl morpholin-4-ylacetate
Description:

Benzylmorpholinoacetate (BMAA) is an organic compound that is used as an antibacterial agent. It is a phenoxy compound with a nitrogen atom in the heterocyclic ring and can be synthesized by reacting benzyl alcohol with morpholine. The phenoxy group and methoxy groups are responsible for its antibacterial activity, while the isopropyl group and isopropoxy group help to increase solubility in organic solvents. BMAA has been shown to have anticancer activity against certain types of cancer cells, including leukemia. It also inhibits the production of erythromycin derivatives by organisms such as Escherichia coli.
