Product Information
(-)-Bicuculline Methochloride (BCM) is a low potency antagonist at the GABA receptor. BCM blocks the uptake of GABA, thereby increasing its concentration in the synaptic cleft. This drug has been shown to inhibit acetylcholine release and increase dopamine release in vivo models of rat brain tissue. BCM has also been found to hyperpolarize cells by binding to receptors on the cell membrane, inhibiting glutamate and gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) receptor activity. BCM is an antagonist at both alpha-amino-3-hydroxy-5-methylisoxazolepropionic acid (AMPA) and kainate glutamate receptors. The measured fluorescence intensity for BCM increases as it binds to these receptors, making it useful for measuring receptor activity.
