Product Information
- Benzaldehyde, 2,4-Dichloro-5-Nitro-
2,4-Dichloro-5-nitrobenzaldehyde is a chemical compound with the molecular formula C6H3Cl2NO2. It can be synthesized by refluxing 2,4-dichlorobenzaldehyde and sodium nitrite with sodium acetate for 24 hours. This reaction produces a mixture of two products: 2,4-dichloro-5-nitrobenzoic acid and 2,4-dichloro-5-nitrobenzoic acid diacetate. The mechanism of this reaction is electrophilic substitution at the chlorine atom by the carboxyl group of the diacetate anion.
This product has been used in studies investigating DNA adducts and chlorides as mechanistic probes for carcinogenic activity. It also has been used to study the synthesis and properties of phenyl rings in organic molecules using high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC).
