3-(Dimethoxymethyl)aniline is a benzene derivative that has a pyridinium group attached to the nitrogen atom. It can be found in hemicyanine dyes and other organic compounds. 3-(Dimethoxymethyl)aniline is a fluorescing compound that has been shown to have intramolecular fluorescence, where the excitation energy is absorbed by one molecule and emitted as light by another molecule on the same molecule. This chemical is not very soluble in water, but it does dissolve well in solvents such as acetone and ether. 3-(Dimethoxymethyl)aniline has been used extensively in biomembrane studies because of its ability to penetrate lipid bilayers.
