Product Information
The compound (R)-2-(4-Nitrophenyl)oxirane is an inhibitor of the epidermal growth factor receptor. It binds to the EGF receptor and blocks its activation, which inhibits cell proliferation and induces apoptosis. This compound has been used in clinical trials for the treatment of cancerous cells. The compound also has a role in wastewater treatment by reducing bacterial populations. Vibrational spectroscopy was used to study the interaction between (R)-2-(4-Nitrophenyl)oxirane and recombinant cells in vitro, which showed that this molecule is able to bind with high affinity to epidermal growth factor receptors on the surface of these cells.
